About
Why visit Begnas Lake
Begnas Lake is a freshwater lake in Pokhara Metropolis of Kaski district of Nepal located in the south-east of the Pokhara Valley. The lake is the third largest lake of Nepal and second largest, after Phewa Lake, among the seven lakes in Pokhara Valley. Water level in the lake fluctuates seasonally due to rain, and utilization for irrigation. The water level is regulated through a dam constructed in 1988 on the western outlet stream, Khudi Khola.

⚠ Travel Notes
- ·Water levels drop noticeably in dry season (winter into spring), which can affect boat access and shoreline aesthetics
- ·The lake is actively used for irrigation — during peak agricultural periods, water drawdown can be significant
- ·Road to Begnas from central Pokhara (roughly 15 km east) is manageable but some stretches are narrow; local buses exist but are infrequent
- ·No high-altitude concerns — lake sits at approximately 650 m — but monsoon-season leeches are common on surrounding trails
- ·Limited medical facilities in the immediate Begnas area; serious issues require transport back to Pokhara city
